What is the reputation of a hospital?

Trust is something one can only earn over time. All the hospitals we list on this site have been recommended by countless sources. We look at recommendations from foreign Embassies in Thailand, at industry award lists, news reports, individual testimonials and much more. The number of entries in our Top hospitals in Bangkok and Top hospitals outside Bangkok lists is short for a good reason: we restrict ourselves on the true 'blue chips'. We would appreciate some feedback on the recommended hospitals as well as on hospitals not on the list. If we keep hearing good things about other facilities, we will add them to our lists.

Ask your agent for a recommendation

In the section Using medical tourist agents we recommend to ask the hospital for a recommendation of an agent. Are we turning in circles? Maybe, but the point is that in the end you want to have an agent you can trust, who has a good relationship with a hospital you like. Agents sometimes have inside knowledge about individual doctors who have a lot of experience with certain procedures. They might also have knowledge of doctors which are better avoided.

Is the hospital accredited by an international organization?

The Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok was the first hospital outside the United States which was accredited by the Joint Commission on International Accreditation (JCIA) and to this date it remains the only one in Thailand. They were first accredited in 2002 and re-accredited in 2005.

More hospitals are accredited by ISO 9001, another international standard for quality assurance. You will always find information on the website of the hospital. Even ISO standards are not so easy to pass and so if a company has gone through the accreditation process successfully, they almost always proudly share their success with the rest of the world.
